Painting

On new construction or walls that have never been painted, we first apply a primer to keep the drywall from absorbing the paint. We will then apply 1 -2 coats of paint using a roller, brush or sprayer.

If the walls have previously been painted, and there is loose or chipping paint, we first scrape the walls and then sand to remove the old paint. If there are holes in the drywall, we putty using a spackling compound and sand until smooth. We will then apply 1 - 2 coats of paint using a roller, brush or sprayer.

Siding

Whether your siding is wood (boards, shakes or shingles) or man-made (steel, aluminum or vinyl), it should last at least 20-30 years and, with proper maintenance, perhaps even the life of your home. Luckily, siding is not typically a source of trouble if it’s correctly installed and maintained by a professional.

The places where siding deteriorates quickest are:

  1. Where it meets a chimney
  2. Where it supports downspouts
  3. Under the eaves
  4. Around doors and windows
  5. Where holes are created to install vents or pipes
  6. At or near ground level
  7. Where it has contact with bushes and treetops

Since these areas are not as noticeable as the large planes along your home where the siding is the least vulnerable, it is easy to ignore damage to siding for a long time. Contact Ed's Contracting today and let us provide you with a free estimate!

Drywall

We use screws to fasten the drywall instead of nails. They hold better and can be removed without damaging the drywall.

The drywall sheets are placed horizontally on the wall. We hang upper panels first.

For maximum strength, we stagger the joints.

We make sure that all joints and fasteners are hidden to ensure a smooth surface for painting.

Once the drywall has been installed and finished, you will have a smooth and even appearance.

Flooring

Flooring is truly fashion underfoot and can add character and charm to your home. Ceramic tile is an appropriate choice for any floor in your home, but it's especially well suited for such areas as entryways, bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, and other areas where high traffic and exposure to water and dirt might make other materials less practical. Hardwood floors are cozy and inviting and generally are appropriate in family rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. Call Ed’s Contracting today and we will install quality hardwood or ceramic tile flooring.

Carpeting

Carpet can offer more versatility, comfort and ease of maintenance than other types of flooring. It is also more "budget-friendly" than most other choices and there are styles to coordinate with every décor.

Ceramic Tile brings a texture, richness and color to a room that Linoleum cannot truly mimic. Tile floors can be installed in any room, however they are most frequently seen in bathrooms and kitchens. Ceramic tile also looks great in entryways, where they serve as a transition point from the outside to large carpeted or hardwood floored rooms. They make for easy clean up and are impervious to water damage.

Roofing

Possible Problems with Your Roof

Repair or replacement — The roof may have localized damage such as a few missing shingles, which can easily be replaced or it may have widespread damage or have exceeded the life expectancy of the product. In this case the whole roof may need to be replaced.

Structural problems — The roof may appear to sag in some areas because of insufficient strength or deterioration of framing or sheathing.

Ice damming — There may be damage to the roofing material and structure due to build-up of ice during the winter.

Flashing — Leaks may occur at the flashing.

Moisture problems — excess moisture in the attic area can lead to deterioration of the roof structure.

Roofing material — The roofing material may fail due to poor installation or may not be the proper type for the specific application.

Asphalt or fiberglass shingles is the most common roofing material that we use. It is composed of asphalt impregnated paper with mineral granules coating the exposed surface. Numerous colors and styles are available to enhance the design of your home. Shingles are easy to install, require little maintenance and are easy to repair. Wind sealed shingles have an added dab of roofing cement under the bottom edge of each shingle. After these are installed and the roof is heated by the sun, the cement melts and sticks to the shingle below, increasing their effectiveness in high wind areas or on shallow sloped roofs.

Gutters

Gutters are one of the most often forgotten maintenance areas of a home, yet are one of the most important. Faulty, overflowing gutters can lead to damaged insulation (lower energy efficiency), damaged structural lumber, termite infestations, excessive mold, and unhealthy landscaping. Ed’s Contracting can repair or replace your damaged gutters. We also clean your gutters as well. Most contractors use high-pressure sprays to clean gutter systems, which can damage your gutters. Ed’s Contracting inspects all gutters and downspouts and then removes debris by hand to ensure your gutters are left spotless and undamaged.

An alternative to gutter cleaning each season, would be to install gutter guards. Gutter guards fit over the entire gutter, allowing water to pass through freely yet preventing debris from clogging the gutters. Call us today to replace your damaged gutters or to install maintenance free gutter guards!
